Phi Theta Kappa capped off its Round One Fundraiser in Lakewood, Calif. for the Passion for Children Foundation on Thursday, Feb. 13.
The Passion for Children Foundation provides sustainable and affordable healthcare to underprivileged children of Sierra Leone, West Africa.
“We’re doing this for Passion for Children Foundation, where children (are) deprived of nourishment, food, education, even basic essentials for living,” Megan Anaya, president of Phi Theta Kappa, said.
“Passion for Children reaches out and has different organizations, raises money and donates this money in order for kids in Africa to raise their living standards a bit.
“Also to have the opportunity to go to school, the opportunity to have medication, if they need it and raise overall health standards there.”
Many people were in attendance throughout the night, some arrived earlier than others but most attendees were friends and family of current PTK members hoping to make a difference.
Frank Dominguez, business major, said, “I got invited to come but also because it’s for a good cause, so I figured to come be a part of it. As long as it’s all going somewhere good that’s all that matters.
“(It) feels good to be a part of something that the school and the PTK is takingpart in, especially when people are having a good time, also its all fun and games. So as long as we’re all here for a good cause, it’s a good thing. We’re happy that the proceeds are going toward the donation. Not bad at all”
Along with hosting a fundraiser at Round One, PTK also celebrated current PTK member Alejandra Lopez’s birthday.
“Yeah, the birthday party, it just came out of nowhere. Coincidentally just celebrating their birthday from two days ago but we’re more than happy to celebrate her birthday,” Dennis Garcia, Vice-president of Phi Theta Kappa, said.
Anaya also seemed certain of making a significant contribution toward the goal of making an impact with the Passion for Children Foundation.
“Everything helps so we can donate to the cause. Our club is always trying to continue to raise money and donate to certain foundations that we feel are appropriate causes.”
