Faculty Senate discussed numerous topics from the iFalcon Student Engagement Coordinator, the resolution for support for Dr. Linda Lacy and for Fair Accreditation, and statewide changes that could have an impact on all of the campuses departments, presented by Academic Chair Rich Cameron.
The iFalcon Student Engagement Coordinator position is open, and it is one of several ways that the campus is institutionalizing iFalcon on campus. It would be a position that reports to the Dean of Academic Success.
The responsibilities would change semester to semester, and it would be to develop ways to inspire what iFalcon is, what it represents, and how to use it to become successful.
The Resolution for Support for Dr. Lacy, was voted on the previous Faculty Senates meeting, and during Nov. 4 meeting they passed a vote to ensure that it was binding under the Brown Act.
The Resolution for the Support for Fair Accreditation was regarding the ACCJC and the trial that is currently taking place.
According to Faculty Senate President, Michelle Lewellen, “The trial is not going the way ACCJC would like it to go. They have admitted that they screwed up and that there was a conflict of interest.”
Lewellen added, “she (Barbara Beno) also admitted that they did not give a fair opportunity for CCF…”
When a new degree is created there are forms asking what is required, and typical information about said degree.
The state is now asking for the colleges to fill out sections of a narrative for a portion of the state’s database.
Rich Cameron’s solution is to simply move the information from the unit plan, to the new database of what the state is requiring.
When professors add classes the degree or certificate wont show the added classes because the chancellors office is backed up.
The new thinking behind the Curriculum Committee will now update the degree certificate, when a course is approved.
