At their weekly court meeting ASCC Court discussed moving the commencement ceremony to the Saturday after finals week.
After moving on to new business, which was about commencement, award committee and review of the current ASCC court, it was unanimously voted to move commencement
Chief of Justice Trent Coates said, “I think it is important to go through the ceremony knowing that you passed your final.”
Lucero Herrera, a member of the ASCC Court, added, “I think the students should worry about their finals first and not worry about their exams during the ceremony.”
Students also agree that the ceremony should be after finals.
Karina Jimenez, who is a student at Cerritos College, said, “I don’t understand why it was ever before finals. I think right now with the ceremony being before finals, students loose their determination because they think they already graduated.”
Next thing on the Court’s list was discussing and nominating members for the award committee for the Fall 2015 semester.
The ASCC Court moved on to the last thing on its list, which was to move a member for the court to bring its total down to eight members.
The Court removed the member because of too many unexcused absences, the members are allowed to have three excused absences and two unexcused absences and this member had exceeded their absences.
Once done with its last discussion the meeting, which started at 11:09 a.m. was adjourned at 11:21 a.m.
