Vice President of Business Services Dr. David El Fattal will be departing from Cerritos and taking a position at Ventura County Community College District.
He stated,”The opportunity for career advancement to a position holding greater responsibility was a key factor in my decision to accept the new assignment at Ventura.”
He will be the Vice Chancellor, Business and Administrative Services serving and supporting three colleges in the district.
El Fattal will be serving Moorpark, Oxnard, and Ventura College.
“I am looking forward to supporting the three colleges and the district in every way possible and especially by sustaining a financially strong district, an essential condition for providing optimum funds to enhance innovative educational programs and student support services for student success,” he said.
El Fattal started as vice president of business services at Cerritos College on March 1, 2010.
According to the Ventura CCD Chancellor’s office press release, the recommendation at the hands of Chancellor Bernard Lunkin to appoint El Fattal as vice chancellor was approved unanimously.
Lunkin has expressed his delight to have El Fattal accept his position.
“[…] In addition to his professional qualifications and credentials, he has demonstrated his personal commitment to effecting change in the lives of individuals and families through the power of education,” he said.
In the press release Board of Trustees Chair Larry Kennedy said, “This appointment strengthens the VCCCD senior management and continues the reorganization, now including a Vice Chancellor, Educational Services, Vice Chancellor Human Resources and Vice Chancellor, Business and Administrative Services.
“Coupled with the presidents of Moorpark, Oxnard, and Ventura Colleges, led by Dr. Bernie Luskin, the district has an exceptionally strong leadership team as we move through accreditation and into the coming year.”
Also providing commentary on the press release, Board of Trustees Vice Chair Bernardo Perez, “We are fortunate to be joined by a leader with such an impeccable business acumen and portfolio of accomplishments in higher education. We commend his success in working with governing boards, administrators, faculty, staff, and students.”
According to Perez, El Fattal had oversight of the District’s $270 million annual budget, and $560 million in two bond construction programs as chief business officer.
El Fattal expressed that his biggest accomplishments at Cerritos lie in the opportunities he was given to improve teaching and learning environments for the campus community.
“As my responsibilities encompass financial oversight of all district funds, my time at Cerritos has been filled with many opportunities to work with campus stakeholders across the institution on many initiatives for improving the teaching and learning environment for students, faculty and staff.”
He continued, “For example, I have been fortunate to have played a leadership role in the construction of dozens of new classrooms, the creation of multiple sustainability initiatives, the establishment of our new Committee for Art in Public Spaces as well as the establishment or improvement of many other initiatives.”
“I am recognized for being the longest serving CBO at Cerritos College since 1994. I am honored to have been able to provide leadership stability and work with a great team at Cerritos throughout my tenure, especially during the daunting economic circumstances that resulted from the Great Recession of 2007.”
