For those who may not know, tucked away in the back of the school’s campus lies a hidden oasis, cosmetology.
Yes, cosmetology. The Health Science Building, beyond the rubble of construction houses the cosmetology program.
We may all be aware that a program for cosmetology does exist, but what you may not be aware of is that it offers its services to the public, and for a bargain.
For skeptics that may not trust a student to cut your hair, I took it upon myself to be a test subject.
I’ll admit, I wasn’t too sure about this myself, but as a cosmetology student and acting Cosmetology Club President Monique Meza assured me, “We have an amazing staff there to assist us step-by-step if needed.”
She was right. As I was getting my hair cut, staff was walking around making sure both students and clients were happy and comfortable.
I was impressed to see how busy the salon really was.
“Business is booming,” Michael Barrita, ASCC president, bragged after seeing first hand the student salon in action.
Any given opportunity you will find Monique and club members promoting, not only their services but their program as well.
“We have been pushing it and pushing it and pushing it to the students, and even faculty,” Meza proudly states.
Barrita agrees, “Monique has reconnected the cosmetology program back with the ASCC, making the student body more aware of what they have to offer.”
Now, I had a great experience and will definitely be returning for future haircuts.
But remember, these are students who are learning to perfect their craft.
With our help as students and faculty, by going over to the student salon and supporting them, “you will help us to learn, to make us better and to be more confident,” Meza adamantly expresses.
So if you are looking to support a school program, get your hair “did”, or just for a day of relaxation, Meza says, “Come in, we are here to help change people, make people feel better about themselves.”
