I think it confuses people, if anything.

If you already have it defined from the beginning then it is necessary so that all the classes that you take will focus on your major.

I think it should be because that way you’ll know what you’re going into, but its kind of difficult to declare a major because you still don’t know what you want. I didn’t know what I want until I came to Cerritos College, but as time went on I finally started taking several GED classes and it helped me understand what I really wanted.
I declared it after, I don’t think it should be necessary for you to declare your major as soon as you come in here; I guess that’s what the general ed classes are for you know, to help you understand what you want to get into and maybe find your passion, cause you might think you want something but once you’re exposed to something else then you’ll actually change your major.

You’re supposed to work towards your major.
It’s better to take it to get yourself prepared for that major here and try to go to a university than try to start all over from scratch.

I believe so; it makes life easier, I guess. You already have a goal so you already know what path to take, what classes to take to achieve that goal, so I guess it is necessary.

No it’s not necessary. You are here to get to get to know yourself more and decide what you really want to do with your life, so, it shouldn’t be mandatory.

I think it is if you really want to transfer out to a university.
I am in the teacher track UTF program, so we’re required to have one, but unless you’re undecided I think you shouldn’t.
Kevin Oriana
Undecided
I don’t think its necessary.
Part of the reason people come here is to find out what they want to do, explore new possibilities.
