Security alerts should reach the students of Cerritos College.

In light of Recent events at Cerritos college, security has been raised around campus, but increased watch and security is only half the battle.

With today’s technology, almost every smart phone has Apps, emails, social network and instant news updates, basically any update is a thumb and a click away.

We get instant accessibility on anything and everything via apps and social networks, security alerts should be an essential for students as well.

Similar to news updates, the security alerts will alert students on campus when something is happening on campus such as important events, security breaches and warnings.

We could of all used an update the night a man was walking with alcohol and a gun inside his backpack a few weeks ago. These updates are a step faster than any police warning, news update, or even word of mouth.

It is important to know when an emergency or warning is happening because these things do happen and it’s best to be ready then to be caught of guard like a deer in the headlights.

The only problem these security updates face is lack of participation by students on campus,not enough students are signing up for them.

Perhaps it is because no one really knows about these updates or because not enough students actually care about their safety, regardless there should be more ways of advertising the alerts around campus for students to know.

This is real life folks, with real life situations and nobody is going to hold your hand and make sure you are safe, you have to take precautions yourself.
