We have all heard the term “global warming”, and may have only given it a passing thought. Some are skeptical of its existence, and others may feel apathetic because they don’t see how our daily living contributes to this phenomena.
Even though you may not realize it, your actions every day contribute to the growing problem of global warming. If people make simple, but meaningful adjustments to their lifestyle, they can help slow down the destructive process that will soon severely impact all of us.
According to Merriam-Webster.com “Global warming an increase in the earth’s atmospheric and oceanic temperatures widely predicted to occur due to an increase in the greenhouse effect resulting especially from pollution.”
Many factors, many of which are man made, can cause this increase in temperatures and it has been the focus of many scientific studies for the past few decades.
As we can see, one of the effects of global warming is the change in climate worldwide.
For example, Korea is known for having four seasons; however, people now say that there are only two seasons: tropical summer from April to October and winter from November to March.
Four seasons are not clear anymore in these Asian countries. People wear summer clothes during the spring, and they might not see snow during the winter months.
These kinds of problems with unusual weather phenomena around the world are attributed to global warming. The Earth’s temperature is increasing every year.
Therefore, trees and forests are dying, the arctic ice is melting, all of which change the eco-system.
However, there are still many people who think that the global warming problem isn’t serious as it is.
The reason why people don’t really care about global warming is because even though its effects are present today, they don’t see the effects for years to come.
People believe there won’t be a huge impact on their social life, although global warming is taking place and gradually changing the natural environment. They don’t realize the impact of their carbon footprint.
The global warming issue has been on the top of the environmentalists’ agenda for a while. People just keep getting told they should do something for global warming. People already know the importance of the environment for them and the need to protect it. However, people still travel with their gasoline-powered car instead of riding a bicycle, using the public transportation system or driving a car that runs on a solar-thermal system.
Many students use a vast amount of paper for printing school-related materials. In the end, those papers will go to wastebasket rather than the recycling bin.
A classroom syllabus, pages of homework, newspapers, beverage containers, electronic equipment and batteries should be all recycled. Reducing, reusing, and recycling at school and in the classroom helps conserve energy, plus reduces pollution and greenhouse gases from manufacturing, and disposal.
Each person can play an important role in reducing greenhouse emissions. While many people may not do much to protect the environment, there are some small but important things people can do. Anyone can reduce, reuse, and recycle at school or in the classroom by using two-sided printing and copying, buying supplies made with recycled content, and using recycled printer cartridges. By becoming environmentally aware and proactive, everyone can become energy efficient and reduce greenhouse gas emissions and their carbon footprint.
