Snapchat and Instagram have sparked interest and gained rapid popularity in the past three years, becoming a means of communication amongst millions of people.
Unlike other social media networks or apps, such as Facebook and Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram differ in the way that it is based more on photos rather than statuses or a simple caption.
These social networks and apps have become a fad; if people do not have one, they are considered “not cool enough.”
Everyone who is in high school or college and has a smart phone has one of these two or both of the apps. If they do not, they most likely have Facebook or Twitter, there is just no escape from having any of these social media apps.
Over the decades, the internet has drastically changed the way people communicate with each other. It used to simply be face to face conversations and then it led to email, chats on social networks, to now photographs and even live face to face chats.
Snapchat and Instagram users post photos or videos for the matter of entertaining their friends or letting them know what is going on in their day and what they are up to.
Others simply use it to have a conversation with people. Then there are those people who use these apps to brag about their lives or about their looks, taking photos of themselves which is known as a “selfie”.
Most people would say they have had an Instagram for years, since it is has been in the apple store or google play store for almost four years. However, Snapchat has gained massive popularity and praise from Apple and Android phone users due to its newest chat features.
On May 1, 2014, Snapchat released a new update that has become their biggest update since the app has been released. The update allows users to chat by swiping right on a friend’s name. When users leave the chat screen, messages will be automatically deleted.
In keeping with Snapchat’s tradition, users have the ability to take screenshots of the chat if they want to preserve it. They will also be able to video chat, as they would with Skype or FaceTime.
So what’s next for communication in the future? How will individuals respond to the changes technology will offer?
The answer is simple; adaptation. It is common for people to adapt to new things, especially technology since it is popular and everyone interacts with it.
Luickily, we have all been accepting and have learned to conform to the various technologial advances that have been created and will be created over time.
