Forward Monique Cisneros scored four goals and had one assist to lead the Cerritos College women’s soccer team to a 7-0 victory over Los Angeles Harbor Tuesday afternoon.
“Once we realized their weakness, we were able to attack straight to the goal,” she said.
Cisneros leads the Falcons with 17 goals in their first nine games.
This was the second game in the South Coast Conference and the Falcons are now 2-0 in conference and 7-0-2 overall.
“We need to play better than this in conference,” head coach Ruben Gonzalez said. “We have to learn that we can’t just turn it off and on whenever we want.”
The scoring started with Cisneros 10 minutes into the first half.
She scored again with 16 minutes left into the half and that opened up the floodgates for the Falcons.
Quickly after that score, forward Corina Villegas scored on an assist from Cisneros.
Then Cisneros scored twice more before halftime to give the Falcons the 5-0 lead.
For much of the second half, the Falcons played their backups and Gonzalez was not pleased with their performance.
In the second half, the Falcons scored two more times, once on a penalty kick by Villegas.
“We gave a lot a people a chance to get on the field today to prove that they should be playing,” she said. “They did not perform the way I wanted them to.”
Some players were also not happy with the team’s performance.
Team captain Desiree Cardenas said, “We played down to the competition today.”
Players also know that their hardest test is still to come.
“We can’t just go through the motions like we did today against Mt. SAC,” Cisneros said.
The Falcons will face Mt. SAC on Oct. 17 at Cerritos College.
