Scoring four goals in the second half after being shut out in the first half, the Cerritos College men’s soccer team defeated East Los Angeles College, 4-0, Tuesday afternoon.
“We play a pressure-style of defensive so if we can do that in the first half, we are able to take over the second half against. Most teams we play will come out and die in the second half,” head coach Benny Artiaga said.
With the win, the Falcons move into second place in the South Coast Conference.
The National Soccer Coaches Association ranks them No. 11 in the country, according to its latest poll, dropping six places from last week.
Next up for the Falcons is Los Angeles Harbor College this Friday at 6 p.m.
In the game, forward Luis Gonzalez got the Falcons on the first in the scoring past an outmatched Sergio Molina, Huskies goalkeeper on a penalty kick at the beginning of the second half.
With 13 minutes left in the game, Molina was relived by goalkeeper Abel Carrera.
The Falcons scored three more times capped off by Alex Munoz’s goal with 10 minutes left in game when the Molina looked like he had the save easily, but the ball just slipped between his arms.
The last time these two teams played they tied, 0-0.
“The Huskies stole 2 points from us last time we played them so I think there was a little extra incentive to beat them this time.
In the college soccer standing system give three points for a win and one for a tie.
