The Cerritos women’s basketball team dominated Long Beach City College the entire ball game in a blowout win, 69-42, on Feb. 12.
Sophomore forward Mercedes Taylor said playing the Vikings will always be a statement game because of the crosstown rivalry and they want to go hard against former coach (LBCC assistant) Steve Johnson.
Cerritos did just that, getting a total team effort especially when most need Friday only suiting up seven players.
Taylor and freshman forward Vannesa Faagata led the team in scoring with 13 points each.
Taylor also snagged 14 rebounds to go along with guard Rachel Butlers double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds.
The Falcons started the first half a mildly sluggish but quickly picked up their game, burning the Vikings’ defense with three-point jumpers.
Sophomore guard Cecily Garcia made all of her three-point attempts and five out of the seven players in uniform made at least one three-pointer.
Cerritos clinched the conference title with this victory and swept Long Beach City in the season conference rivalry.
Five players for the Falcons scored in double figures in the 27-point lead win.
The Falcons will host ECC Compton Wednesday night.
