With the victory over Santa Barbara City College, the Cerritos College women’s basketball team will now advance to play top-seeded and defending state champion Mt. San Antonio in the second round of the regional playoffs.
The Falcons are familiar with the Mounties, losing to them twice this season on an average of 16 points.
Head coach Karen Welliver is optimistic about this Saturday’s game.
“We’ve beaten them through the years and I think we can play with them,” Welliver said.
Maleta Daughtery, guard, is also determined to avenge losses to the Mounties.
“We are going to come in and watch game tapes and also work hard in practice,” Daughtery said.
In their last meeting, the Mounties were shut down in the first half but turned it around the second half, scoring 51 points in the second half giving them a 73-63 win in a SCC crossover game back on Jan. 14.
Cerritos was also with the absence of Adria Jackson, who has contributed offensively late in the season.
