The Cerritos men’s soccer team has seen a lot of recent success this season by not just its team’s players but the coach as well.
The most recent and impressive achievement for the Falcons soccer team was the signings to top four-year schools from eight players.
When a program has players signing to top universities and that number of student/athletes is doing so, that not only shows the quality of the program but it shows that they put in the work on the field as well as the classroom.
UC Irvine, with the first ranked soccer program in the state, will have two Falcon players in SCC Defender of the Year and All-American Jonathan Rivas, and Far West Region All- American Alex Munoz.
Defender Norm Mariscal who, first team All-Conference player, will be headed to UC Riverside.
Second team conference midfielder Ricky Reyes will be headed to Cal Poly Pomona.
Freshman player Jhosimar Rivera signed to Kansas Wesleyan along with goalkeeper Diego Millan.
Three former Cerritos players in Marco Pulido, Bryan Alvarez and Humberto Lopez are currently playing at Kansas Wesylan.
NCAA Division II National Soccer Champions Cal State Dominguez Hills will be adding Gerardo Torres and Miguel Vargas who has future plans of becoming a lawyer.
The signings of these players is an honor for the Falcon program just in addition to the team’s second state title in the last three years and being ranked second in the nation.
Strong coaching was also evident in the Falcons’ 10-1 run in their last 11 games of the season as well as making sure the school work was concentrated on.
In their championship game, the Falcons faced off against their rival as it seemed in Mt. San Antonio College and Coach Artiaga felt one of the keys to the victory in that game was the many times the team’s played each other previously.
With the many honors received this season within the Falcon soccer program, the signings are definitely the ultimate accolade for Cerritos.
