The Cerritos College men’s basketball team has been wearing it’s traditional baby blue game jerseys for as long that head coach Russ May, who once a Falcon himself, can’t even recall how long its been.
Assistant coach Tony Rodriguez, who also played at Cerritos and was in the 1968 state championship team, can’t remember.
May was sad to say that they change the jersey but said. ” The reason we changed [the jerseys] is to unify the school’s athletic teams to its original [royal navy color].”
He also added,” The players love them, they look elegant and they look like first class players.”
Rodriguez expressed his disappointment in changing the jerseys, however, he did like the new design.
“Creating new uniforms and rebuilding the gym, helps create a brand new face for Cerritos and [it has] taught me that some times you have to let things go,” Rodriguez said.
Both May and Rodriguez have acknowledge that Cerritos athletics are changing the jerseys for the better of the school, however, he does not want the team to get too caught up in it.
“The player makes the jersey, the jersey does not make the player,” May said.
