Finishing last season with a 21-2-2 record, the Cerritos College women’s soccer team has their sights set on improving their game and bringing home a championship as they get ready for their upcoming season.
“[The fans] can expect us the win it all. Everyone can expect that we will bring home the trophy and the rings on our fingers”, first year goalkeeper Alexis Crillo said.
The Falcons, whose new team slogan is “Shut up and play,” have been working to build the team up and do better than last season, which ended in the third round of the playoffs against Santa Rosa College, 1 to 0.
With only seven returning players, Head Coach Ruben Gonzalez has faith that the team will have no problem doing better than the previous season.
“We are working very hard so we can compete for the state championship this year. Only seven players are returning players, but we have 18 listed freshmen who are experienced at the club level, so that’s something to look forward to see.”
The freshmen players believe that they have a lot to offer and are looking forward to playing for the team.
“I will make sure not many, if any, goal attempts get passed me,” Crillo said.
Freshman Defender Monica Ramirez is also looking forward to the season.
“We are going to work to together. Knowing how the team did last year, we are going to go all the way for sure”, said Ramirez, “I’m going to try to bring a positive attitude and leadership to help us get to the championship.”
The team, like Ramirez, is having a positive attitude about the season and looking forward to playing.
The first game will be against New Jersey’s Mercer College in Rochester, NY on Aug. 28, and their first home game will be against Cosumnes River College Sept. 9.
