Outsized and outmatched, the Cerritos College volleyball team was defeated in three sets by Fullerton College Wednesday, splitting it’s season record to 1-1.
The Hornets jumped on the Falcons early and wouldn’t look back.
Falcon setter Gloria Chang said the lack of team chemistry caused the team to fall early.
“We just got down on ourselves. We weren’t communicating as teammates, except for getting angry at each other,” she said.
In the first set, Fullerton maintained about a seven-point margin before winning it, 25-19.
The momentum wouldn’t slow as they would capture the second set, 25-11.
Up against elimination, the Falcons took the lead early.
But lack of hustle and mental errors opened the window of opportunity for Fullerton to come back and they took it, giving them the 25-15 set win and the sweep of the match.
Head coach Eddie Rapp, who is in his 12th year as the head of the Fullerton program, took notice of Cerritos’ athleticism.
“They have some athletics over there who’ve got really good hops. We just make sure we sealed the night and kept the pressure on them.”
The Falcons will now enter the San Diego Mesa Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
Following, Cerritos has a three-game road streak.
