Ranked number three in the state, Cerritos College wrestling was unsuccesful at its away match against Rio Hondo, 27-19, on Wednesday.
Rio Hondo 197 pounder Matt Lopez said about the meet, “They were good but we wrestled better. They just need a little more training.”
Rio won six out of eight matches against Cerritos.
Tyree Cox at 174 pounds for Cerritos said about the match, “I felt like I did pretty bad. I could’ve paid attention more and execute my moves better.”
One fifty seven pounder, Ramon Estrada was one of the two wrestlers from Cerritos. On how he felt to be the first one on his team to win, Estrada said, “It was upsetting because a lot of it was just little mistakes that we needed to work on.”
His advantages over his opponent he said was that he was stronger and felt that he was more experienced.
The second person to win his match was Estrada’s brother, Alfonso at 165 pounds.
On what Alfonso thought about having to push for a win, “I felt like I needed to start fresh so we could start a winning and start a winning streak so I tried to go out there pretty tough.”
The Falcons’ next match will be away against Mt. San Antonio College on Wednesday.
This will be the second time since the beginning of the season that Cerritos has wrestled at Mt. SAC where they split four matches.
