The Cerritos College Falcons continue their losing streak, making it nine straight losses after their 7-2 loss to East Los Angeles College on April 19 at Cerritos College.
The Huskies (17-15) managed 12 hits while the Falcons (7-25) only managed five hits.
The starting pitcher for the Falcons was Christian Price, who picked up the loss and pitched five innings, gave up seven hits, four runs, struck out two hitters and walked none, making his ERA 3.83 and a record of 2-3.
The winning pitcher for the Huskies was Juan Vera who earned his fifth win of the year, pitched 7.2 innings allowing five hits, two runs (one earned), one walk and struck out one Falcon hitter.
Vera is now 5-3 on the season.
First baseman Joshua Ancona drove in the only two Falcon runs.
One came in the third with a sacrifice fly, driving in outfielder Zach Mello, making the score 3-1 in favor of the Huskies.
The second run came in on the eighth with another sacrifice fly to right field, driving in Mello again.
Pitcher Jon Villalpando took over in the 6th inning while the Falcons were losing 4-1.
Villalpando went on to pitch three innings, giving up three hits, a run, a walk and struck out one hitter.
“I pitched okay, I came in throwing strikes.
“I just left some pitches up, they [the Huskies] got that run in the last inning and that was it, just that one run” he said.
Villapando felt that the team played well but just had one weakness.
“We hit well just not with runners in scoring position, we hit the ball hard a couple of times just not enough,” he said.
East LA pitcher Greg Aldrete picked up his 2nd save of the season as he pitched 1.1 innings, not allowing a hit or a run while striking out three.
