After a commanding 4-1 victory over Cosumnes River College Friday night, the Cerritos College women’s soccer team will now look to stay in the win column when they face Sierra College on Sunday, Sept. 9.
Sophomore midfielders Chelsea Villegas, Julissa Castaneda, and Jennifer Mejicanos all scored goals that sealed the win against Cosumnes River College.
The Falcons have got off to a decent start, and look to build good team chemistry as the season moves along.
Captain and offensive midfielder Claudia Lopez feels the coaches have done a great job so far in preparing the team.
“I feel that our coaches have done a great job to get us prepared mentally and physically for this upcoming season. I expect to leave it all on the field and give it 110 percent in each game,” Lopez said.
Although the Falcons haven’t lost a game, Lopez still feels the team could have done a little better.
“I feel that our season started off good, but we could have done a little better. We definitely have to work on a few things,” Lopez continued.
The Falcons will now go on the road to play against another undefeated team, the Sierra College Wolverines on Sunday in Rocklin, where they look to hand Sierra their first loss of the season.
After a disappointing first round playoff exit last year, Sierra College is also looking to hand Cerritos College their first loss as well.
While the season has already started, Coach Ruben Gonzalez notes that the team’s starting 11 isn’t permanently set.
“It will change from game to game depending on the competition at practice,” Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez also notes that the goal, which is to win the conference and state championship, will never change.
