The Cerritos College men’s basketball team took down Los Angeles Harbor College 62-51 at The Aviary Wednesday night, clinching a share of the division title.
“It was good. We played hard, we played team basketball and we won,” said forward David Hall.
Point guard Anthony Holliday had 16 points while guard Kevin Conrad and forward Terence Traylor both chipped in six points along with nine rebounds in the win.
“We operated well as a team, especially the people that came off the bench,” said Conrad.
Guard Chris Wyms provided a nice spark off the bench providing 16 of the bench’s 29 points.
“I’m really proud of our guys. They did what they needed to do to come out with a victory,” said head coach Russ May.
“Wyms came off the bench and made some big shots and Traylor was fantastic on defense. Guys stepped up. I’m excited about that.”
The Falcons defense held the Seahawks down to a 33.3 percent field goal percentage as well as forcing 16 turnovers.
Cerritos College’s offense was just as effective shooting 41.2 percent from the field as well as connecting with 46.2 percent of the shots from downtown.
However, free-throws remain a constant problem with the Falcons connecting on only 58.3 percent of them.
“We can always play better defense and shoot better free-throws,” Hall said.
“Free-throws are something we have been struggling with. As long as we play hard and together we can win.”
May added, “We still have to shoot free-throws and manage the clock better. We took some poor shots down the stretch but other than that we’re going to enjoy it and move on.”
Cerritos College will host its final regular season game Friday against Los Angeles Southwest at 7 p.m.
The Falcons are determined to finish off the season strong.
“We have to beat out Los Angeles Southwest (College) if we want to be league champs and not share it with Harbor,” said May.
“We have to finish this off and take care of business.”
