Women’s tennis bounced back and defeated El Camino College by a score of 6-3. Cerritos is now 7-3 in season and 3-1 in conference games.
The Falcons looked stronger and look to continue their success on Friday, Feb. 27 as they play against San Diego Mesa at home.
Starting with doubles, Cerritos looked to take advantage early on in the match.
- No. 1 singles Taylor Heath (Cerritos) lost to her opponent 3-6, 3-6.
- No .2 singles Anastasia Khomyachenko (Cerritos) defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-2.
- No. 3 singles Mariia Yatsenko (Cerritos) defeated her opponent in a three set match 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.
- No. 4 singles Stef Flores (Cerritos) defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-2.
- No. 5 singles Katia Brambila (Cerritos) lost to her opponent 1-6, 1-6.
- No. 6 singles Merlii Alcasid (Cerritos) lost to her opponent 3-6, 2-6.
The Falcons were all tied up with El Camino in singles with the score at 3-3.
With the three doubles matches left, Cerritos needed to win two of the three remaining games in order to defeat El Camino.
- No. 1 doubles Taylor Heath/ Mariia Yatsenko defeated their opponent with the score of 8-3.
- No. 2 doubles Anastasia Khomyachenko/ Stef Flores defeated their opponent with the score of 8-2.
- No. 3 doubles Katia Brambila/ Merlii Alcasid defeated their opponent with the score of 8-6.
Head coach Alvin Kim said, “If they (women) want to compete in the playoffs they have to take advantage of teams we play in order to make [the] playoffs and compete with the teams that beat us this season.”
He added, “We are going to need to rest the starters and let the bench play.”
Stef Flores, communications major, said, “I think as the season progresses I feel more comfortable and I was relaxed today and hitting the shots I wanted.”
He added, “Just get some rest and drink a lot of water for tomorrow.”
