Cerritos College defeated Long Beach City College in straight sets to take both games in the season series on Wednesday, Oct. 28.
After a disappointing first home loss in straight sets last Friday against El Camino College, the Cerritos College women’s volleyball team hit the road and bounced back with a straight set victory at Long Beach City College.
The Falcons took down the Vikings 25-19, 25-15 and 25-13 at Viking Gym to sweep the season series against the Vikings this year.
Leading the way for Cerritos were Monica Vega [10 kills], Jasmine Peralta [18 digs] and Natalie Caravantes [32 assists].
“I was just being aggressive,” Vega said. “Jasmine [Peralta] just told me where to hit the ball and I knew where to hit it and timed it perfectly.”
Outside and right side hitter Valerie Montoya, who had seven kills as well as seven service aces, said, “Not only did I practice a lot, I also listened to coach [Velazquez-Ortega] as well as move my serve around. I just had to find an open area.”
Head coach Teresa Velazquez-Ortega said, “I am very proud of my team. [The women] worked hard, and had all around good game. The serving was really good as well, Valerie [Montoya] showed it with those three consecutive aces in the second set.”
With the win, Cerritos is now 13-8 overall and 6-2 in South Coast Conference play.
The Falcons will return home for a rematch against Mt. San Antonio College on Friday, Oct. 30 at 6 p.m.
