The 2015 Cerritos College women’s volleyball season culminated with the Falcons showing a great effort, but also losing in straight sets to El Camino College.
Despite Valerie Montoya and Monica Vega, getting six kills and five digs each along with seven digs from Nicole Spigner,
Cerritos failed to get revenge from the home court loss back on Friday, Oct. 23 as the El Camino Warriors prevailed 25-11, 25-11, and 26-24 in front of 182 people at the El Camino College South Gym to take a clean sweep of the season series against the Falcons.
“[This season] taught me a lot of lessons, including never stop playing and fight hard till the end,” Montoya said. “When the playoffs start, we need to be more unified.”
Libero Christina Kennedy, who took the place of Jasmine Peralta, who was dismissed from the team, said, “We need to continue to play our game style when the playoffs start. I need to trust in my team.”
Head coach Teresa Velazquez-Ortega said, “I am very happy for my team. [The women] played well this season and I hope we have a deep run in the playoffs.”
The loss gives the Falcons a final overall record of 16-11 and 9-5 against the South Coast Conference.
Additionally, Cerritos had 956 kills in 91 sets all season long for a final average of 10.51 kills per set to go with 449 errors, 1208 digs and 236 service aces.
