The Cerritos Women’s Cross Country team took fourth place at the three mile Mt. San Antonio Invitational Saturday, Oct. 14.
“I think we did pretty well, I think we could’ve pushed our selves a little further but i feel like it was just a harder week for us as a team,” Sophomore Jaime Monaco said.
Lead by sophomore Rebecca Harris, who placed 10th overall, ran a 19:37.4 time; pulling ahead of six runners to solidify Cerritos a spot in the top 10 teams at the meet.
Cerritos completed the race with a total of 120 team points, finishing ahead of three other schools who attended the conference.
“It is a team effort,” said Sophomore Gaby Mendoza.
She continued, “The way cross country works is that the the team with fewer points wins — but the main point is to get your whole top seven in before the other team’s top seven.”
Freshmen Tyler Simpson finished right behind her fellow Falcon runner Harris, in 18th place at a 20:03.8 time.
The rest of the team did as follows:
- Giselle Burgos, 20:37.7; 24th place
- Alejandra De La O, 20:41.8; 25th place
- Jessica Ayala, 22:10.9; 59th place
- Debora Lopez-Guzman, 22:54.3; 77th place
- Jaime Monaco, 22:58.7; 79th place
- Gaby Mendoza, 23:00.4; 80th place
