The Cerritos Baseball team obtained their 29th defeat against Pasadena City College by a score of 9-3 on Thursday, April 25. This is their 19th defeat in the conference championship.
The first three innings were scoreless. In the top of the fourth inning, the Lancers took the lead thanks to their center fielder No. 21 Gabriel Arellano singled in the middle; second baseman No. 3 Andrew Scanell and right fielder No. 2 Shane Ogata scored. The second run was thanks to a fielders choice from left fielder No. 26 Wyatt Coates and left fielder No. 7 Edward Manzo scored.
In the top of the fifth inning, the Lancers scored four more runs. The first one was thanks to a fielders choice from left fielder Coates, catcher No. 9 Cole Pilar out at second base and third baseman No. 22 Marco Martinez scored.
The second run was thanks to an error by shortstop No. 4 Trevor McInerney and Coates scored. The seventh run was scored by Ogata thanks to a single from right field from Martinez.
The eighth run was scored thanks to a single from Arellano which led to an unearned run by first baseman No. 15 Victor Zepeda.
In the bottom of the fifth inning the Falcons scored two runs. The first one was thanks to a double by third baseman No. 44 Matt den Hartog and first baseman No. 24 Nicholas Martinez scored.
The second run was thanks to a single from outfielder No. 9 Shea Estrin and den Hartog scored.
The sixth and seventh inning were scoreless. In the bottom of the eighth inning the Falcons scored their third run, thanks to a single in center field from outfielder No. 25 Michael Gonzalez, McInerney ran to third base and outfielder No. 17 Wyatt Hall scored.
In the top of the ninth inning, the Lancers of Pasadena City College scored thanks to a single from left field from Martinez, Zepeda advanced to third base and Ogata scored his second run of the game for the final score of 9-3.
Coach Zamora when asked on the team’s performance said, “We had three scoreless innings until we made big mistakes which costed us the game and we had four errors which were critical and Pasadena played good baseball.”
When questioned on the improvement of the team Zamora stated, “We need to improve on pitching and getting those outs early in the inning so we don’t have any errors which we had today. Unfortunately we are eliminated from the playoffs so we have one more game to improve on pitching and getting those outs early in the inning.”
Cerritos previous three games: Cerritos 6-5 Fresno City; Cerritos 1-16 Cuesta, both during Alan Hancock tournament; Cerritos 1-10 Bakersfield; Cerritos 6-13 Pasadena City College.
The Falcons have one more non-conference game against Ventura College on Friday, April 26 at 2:30 p.m. which will be a make-up game from March at home.
